Why SDI Open Water?

The SDI Open Water Scuba Diver course is an entry-level certification course designed to give you the necessary skills to safely conduct open water dives. Some of the many skills you will learn include buoyancy, proper weighting, marine conservation, equipment assembly, proper dive planning, and maintenance. The course covers all the basic knowledge about equipment, physiology and the marine environment while training students to perform basic skills underwater. This course is the key to start exploring dive destinations around the globe or just in your backyard.

Why SDI?
Both students and instructors have embraced the no nonsense approach that the SDI training system offers. We have streamlined the course materials to let students study the essential academics with an emphasis on practical diving skills learned in both the pool and open water environments. SDI is the only agency to require students to be taught with modern dive computers from the onset of training.

SDI course materials are state-of-the-art; the materials are lavishly illustrated with photography and graphics.

Diving is constantly changing. SDI staff is always looking forward and striving to be the innovators in scuba diving education. SDI focus is to make the experience of diving one that is enjoyed by every family member.

What do I need to start?

Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a SDI Open Water Diver certification. You must be older than the age of 14 to begin the SDI Open Water Diver program. For those of you who are not above the age of 14 and would like to participate in the SDI Open Water Diver Program, then the SDI Jr Open Water Diver program is available to you. If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, we provide SDI Junior Open Water Diver programs on a regular basis.

To earn your SDI Open water certification, you need to attend all three parts of the Open Water course:

1) Knowledge Development (Mondays 1830hrs - 2130hrs)

2) Confined Water Sessions (Tuesday & Wednesday 1830hrs - 2130hrs)

3) 4 Open Water Dives (Multiple Options)

After completing all three sections you will earn your globally recognized
SDI Open Water Diver certification card

Course Prerequisites:

1) Candidate must be a minimum age 10 years old.

2) Candidate must be able to swim 200 metres or a 300 metres mask, fin and snorkel swim

3) Candidate must be able to float/tread-water for 10 minutes
